Updates and my favorite posts this month.

Whoops, this was accidentally posted as a blank post…sorry. All fixed now, hopefully.

“ Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels.”

Hebrews 13:1-2

Before I begin this super long post (you have been warned), please keep Emmy (Restless roots https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/124673962) in your prayers and well wishes. She is a sweet dog that cheers up so many people with her kindness. She visit senior centers and spreads loads of love to everyone out there she meets in her adventures. Poor Emmy is having some health problems. Thank you.

Another month just flew by and boy what a month it was. Not sure what is going on out in your part of the world but I have noticed that during this month of love, there was a whole lot of hate being passed around in our country (USA).

I could give many examples of what I just wrote, mostly about the political and racial tension everywhere, but I think that is a really touchy subject to bring up, and my intentions are never to judge or offend anyone with my posts. Sometimes though it helps to vent now and then.

It is getting a little scary at times and every person can feel it. I was not raised to hate, so I will continue to pray, spread kindness and look both ways as they say. I don’t like pointing these things out, but when there is unrest on our planet, we all suffer. United we stand…divided we fall.

I will try not to focus on that and keep this post about positive things. We need kindness everyone. I hope your days are filled with love and kindness where ever you walk for all the months ahead of you.

This month we started working on the garden. We need to change it up a bit and transplant some of the cacti we started growing. We have to switch to a more water friendly garden. We could work a little more in this area.

Our weather has been insane and cold. Arizona is not known for cold temps and maybe I am being a bit spoiled but it is not fun having gray cold days. We haven’t been able to get up north to check on things at Our Little Red House. They have been getting hit with a lot of winter storms. Lots of snow up there, hope everything was covered and protected. We will find out in the Spring.

We had to bring in most of our garden plants to protect them from the freeze. Our Arizona room is like a jungle right now.

One morning we woke up to this. It reminds me of that Stephen King movie The Mist. Anyway, all our little baby plants are inside where it is warm and they are protected from this weather. I think new seedlings are so adorable when sprouting. Guess I am weird.

Speaking of adorable, I found the cutest little rocking chair for a baby shower we were invited to. It was painted with the colors purple, black and green.

The baby’s nursery has mostly white items in it so I repainted the chair white and added some of my tiny hand-painted flower designs to it.

And I made a little cushion using some vintage fabric from the 70’s.

Then with the left over scraps I weaved a rag basket.

The best part was filling the basket with things. Shopping for a future baby is so fun. All those miniature things. Tiny little socks, little shirts, it is hard to choose what to buy.

I also added some goats milk soap that I poured into one of my bunny molds. I didn’t add colors or fragrance though, to keep it gentle for the baby.

My table is finished and I love it. My husband and son did a great job.

And now we have a new item to fix up. Look what my mother-in-law gave me. This one is a vintage school bench. Alley cat has already claimed it. For a couple of days I will just look at it to get a feel for things.

The only fun craft project I was able to work on for Valentines Day were these heart magnets that I stitched up one night. I sent them out with cards to some very special people in my life who are going through some rough spots right now with health issues. Love you guys, stay strong, you have a lot of people who care for you.

Did some more needle felting. Love practicing this new skill. I combined pompoms and needle felting for this little lama. I have a whole post coming up in March on this project which includes other critters.

DSC_1700.JPG.Finally had a moment to make a pretty vase. Thank you Mel from Decorcraft for inspiring me. You always have such fun craft posts.Such a talented and creative person you are. Every time you post one of your crafts, I want to stop everything and make one myself. At least I got around to this vase. I even added some of my daughter’s flowers she got for Valentine’s Day to a faux rose of mine. My Valentine sunflowers were a little too big for this old bottle I spray painted, wrapped twine and added a vintage pin to.

I can’t forget Kathy at crafts and things (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/149875503). Thank you so much for making me a part of such a wonderful idea of yours. I love the Lady Bug challenge you came up with, so sweet. You are also super talented and I can’t wait to see all the cool lady bugs you are designing. So far, everyone who has participated has made some adorable little critters. So fun seeing what you all come up with too.

C-Sophie Marshall (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/141467716/posts/414) tiny lady bug garden rocks.

Thank you to our neighbors Vance and Lillian for the yummy lemon bars they dropped off to us the other day, along with a box of lemons from their tree. I will have to make some nice lemon cleaner for your home later and some lemon brownies.

Also Thank you Jody (another neighbor) for the vintage book called The Century book of facts. It was printed in 1907 and is full of all kinds of information.

In our neighborhood before we donate we ask a neighbor if they need anything from our pile of donations first. You never know unless you ask. So no matter how weird it may feel at first, go out there and meet your neighbors, smile, greet and keep connecting with others. I wasn’t kidding when I wrote there is something ugly going on around the world. Something separating all of us and that includes family. I can’t believe a family would listen to a tiny screen or any political figures or celebrities over their own flesh and blood but it is happening.

Now onto my favorite posts this month.

Favorite DIY’s:

I found the coolest new site…wait, maybe she found me first. Now I can’t remember, anyway please check out this site  hookedonhobbies           (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/151935750/posts/485) she is so creative and she needle felts. Patty Thurlby at Whimziville- Purse pouch necklace pendants (https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/68606431/posts/2162832379) I do like tiny things.

Great instructions too. These are so cool. It amazes me what you come up with in your creations.

Srividya at hookedonhobbies- DIY Embrodery (https://wordpress.com.read/blogs/4315705/posts/820) I try to practice my embroidery skills at least once a month. I wish I was at the skill level Srividya is. WOW! Her embroidered piece on handmade paper should be in a gallery or museum. It’s so pretty.

I have a new follower- Thanks for stopping by for a visit Lincolnshire Fenn Crafts (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/110182870/posts/2311) I am super happy to have another needle felter I can turn to for advice. Anyone interested in learning this fun craft, please visit this site for some really great projects and tips. My favorites are the hedgehogs and pumpkins.

Kelleysdiy-creative uses for old books (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/117499213/posts/22825) I wish I would have kept all those books I just got rid of while organizing. Kelly’s site always has great ideas.

Popsicle society- Positive life (https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/86887903/posts/2163834726

You always post the best quotes. Love this one

“ A negative mind will never give you a positive life.”

I have a cousin in Michigan who is in desperate need of these words of wisdom. Sadly,  I think she was born to be bitter, full of hate and jealousy. I hope she turns things around. Life is too beautiful and precious to be stuck in a world that is full of those things.

Beauty Beyond bones- (https://beautybeyondbones.com/2019/01/28/andrew-cuomo-nightmare-in-new-york)

The courage you have always amazes me. Thank you for having that courage, for speaking up and for sharing what everyone gets attacked for now in our world. I wish I could say this isn’t happening but it is. I worry about my kids everyday they step out that front door of ours and step into what my husband and I call the big room. The big room of the world. Although the world seems to be getting smaller and smaller with how easy it is to connect now with one another we are not connecting where it counts. We should be connecting emotionally but that part of us seems to be growing farther and farther apart.

A guy called bloke-K9 interviews 4-Fluke (https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/77762620/posts/2162716020) This was one of those post that will put a big smile on your face. If you have ever wondered what a dog is thinking about then you will really enjoy reading this series of interviews.

Noddfacrafts- fabrics from India- Textile Treasure Hunt (https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/14290442/posts/2164238010)

What beauty, wish I could weave like this. How fun is this adventure. Thank you for sharing this and taking us along with you.

Tanya Kohl-wildflower walks (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/11306792/posts/3531)

Took me on another fun walk, this one came with birds.

Favorite blogger I discovered this month- Mary-Home is Where the Boat is (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/11358875/posts/88413) Okay you guys, you need to go out and search the blogosphere if aren’t doing that. Honestly, there are some super great bloggers out there. Mary, your post, photos and garden are beautiful. I only had time to visit a couple of your posts and WOW. That puppy bouquet is adorable and I want to make your garden shed my home. I wonder what it would be like to wake up in a bed of roses and flowers.

Thank you Michelle at Le Grand art, we all need a good laugh now and then and this post did just that. You make Lady Bugs sound so scary. (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/143768875/posts/925)

Have a great weekend everyone. Stay safe, healthy and happy out there in the world. Please do something kind today and remember to do your research when it comes to what you are reading or watching on your screens. Always research both sides of everything even if one side isn’t the side you like…the truths are somewhere in the middle.

Hope you are all able to find the truths in your hearts. It is not my place to judge so I try to watch out for that trait that we all have now and then. Everyone has a story , just listen to your guts and hearts.

There are many wolves in sheep’s clothing out there in the world getting a lot of people to hate one another. Don’t fall for their lies. Go out and meet a new neighbor, spend time with your love ones making memories, turn your social media off for a walk somewhere and enjoy your natural surroundings…just spread some peace out there in the world. It’s just the medicine this planet needs right now.

Happy Blogging to you all and thanks for stopping by Our Little Red House for a visit. My heartfelt prayer for you all is that you will be blessed today and everyday.

“ Everybody today seems to be in such a terrible rush, anxious for greater developments and greater riches and so on, so that children have very little time for their parents. Parents have very little time for each other, and in the home begins the disruption of peace of the world.”

    1. Thank you. I haven’t noticed a lot of rocking chairs out there anymore, glad I was able to find one. My cousin’s daughter remembers having one as a little girl and she loved it. I think her new granddaughter will love it too.

Goodness, you know how to do so much! Wow!
First of all, I too enjoy gardening and am currently waiting impatiently for about 40 seedlings to come out of their soil already.

Love the rocking chair restoration.. My sis used to sew covers and restore free furniture she picked up along the road. Your chair reminds me of hers because she alwsys loved white furniture.

There I was thinking how lovely the seat cushion was – and you made it! So pretty!

Ive always wanted to make my own hand soaps, but the technique always seemed a bit tough for me, and not sure if the making materials are sold where I live now.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I too used to be a non-cellphone person until recently. Had to be reachable 24/7 for the military unit I’m with. So I had to even upgrade to the smartphone. Folks always looked at me funny when I’d break out my generic non-swipeable phone last year.

Enjoyed reading this post and seeing your many handmade creations.

In regards to the racial tenseness in the country, I could never seem to understand when the athletes didn’t stand for the American anthem. Seemed so unAmerican to me, no matter their protesting reasons. Maybe they’d understand if they had needed to be naturalized to become a U.S. citizen, like I did, over 20 years ago.

    1. Thank you for this, it is just what I needed. Such a nice comment. Your sister sounds like she was fun. I love picking up old furniture that other people throw away, all it needs is some TLC. I usually give it away once I am finished, it’s good therapy. We might have to eventually get a cell phone, it is getting harder to live without one. For now we just tell people to call our land line and if we don’t pick up then we are out living life. Yeah, I couldn’t understand the athletes not standing either. Everything was a lot funner when sports were all about sports, movies were all about movies and their awards and people were just people, all religions, races, whatever they were…we are all still human beings. Thank you again for such a sweet comment and keep going out there and taking photos of flowers. They are pretty subjects to photograph. Have a great week.

  6. Love the white chairs and your set to! Great blog! Hope you get up to the red house soon. One day it’s nice n sunny then blah cold hits again! Spring is coming soon!

  7. First, thank you so much for mentioning my website! Second, I just love your blog. I bet the inside of your house is amazing and that rocking chair….so pretty! 1. You’re welcome and thank you for all your recipes. I am having so much fun with felting, I wish I had more time to do it more but now that are weather is back to normal I am back at furniture and home repairs.. We had some wet and cold weather there for a while. I heard there is another rain storm coming next week so I will have to get my painting project done before that…we don’t have a garage. 8. love love love that chair and you did great with the cushion. I love that you share all these blogs with us. It makes it nice to meet new people 🙂 And you are right there are so many wolves out there who want us all at each others throats. Why, I don’t know. Anger feels horrible, and so does hate. It is so much more pleasant and enjoyable to love, be happy, and help out others. I ask the LORD to bless you and your sweet family 🙂

    1. Thank you Margaret, you are right it is so nice to meet others out there in the world. I met a nice woman today on my hike. She adopted her brother’s dog when he passed away and she was telling me about how the dog is a service dog and needs therapy for separation issues, which the state provides. He was so sweet. She was telling me that he is the best dog she has ever been around, he sure loved me rubbing behind his ears. I love being around people that are full of love not hate, you can tell when there is hate in the room. I have some family members that are full of hate at the moment because of what their tiny screens are telling them. It seems like there is a divide even in our own family when it comes to this crazy political tension out there and now they are talking about infanticide being okay…it is crazy. We are talking about little babies. What is going on. So I will say a prayer for everyone, God bless you and your family too and stay safe out there. Have a great week.

Your projects and crafts are all delightful. I love the rocking chair, Valentine hearts, the baby soaps, everything! I have lived in Arizona twice. I hope it warms up for you soon. We have so much snow here in Montana it’s not even funny. I’ve become a hermit this winter, but I do try to check on our elderly neighbor. She seems to appreciate my pop-in visits. You are right, we need to connect in more personal ways and be much kinder to one another. All the hatred breaks my heart. It’s too much right now. I don’t understand it. Thank you for your uplifting posts.

    1. Thank you and thank you for doing your part in spreading kindness. Everything on Television these days has some sort of agenda to turn us all against one another. It is getting old. I have reverted back to old shows on regular TV channels…so funny. It is already warming up and the snow up north is melting. We are going to have a pretty Spring with all this snow and rain we got. Hope it starts warming up in your area too. At least I am getting some fun little crafts done during our crazy weather. Have a great weekend.

If you follow me on my new website https://all-hearts.org you will be able to see some of the things I’ve been up to with my crafts. I have been unwell and had a few trips to ED recently so please keep me in your thoughts.
