Favorite bloggers and updates for the month of March.

I can’t believe March is just about over. Since I started getting things done in my life, it seems like life is just flying by. We got some rain again this month and even though it rained, I was still able to get some things done. Although all the pretty flowers starting to bloom everywhere in our garden are keeping me and my camera distracted, so I didn’t get too much done.

I have lots of little baby cacti to transplant that fell off from the main plant during one of our windstorms, or the birds got to them digging for worms. I love finding them on the ground. I just fill a tiny pot with some dirt and poke the broken cacti in and eventually they will root.

Some of our bulbs have finally come to bloom.

I was surprised to see some flowers blooming in my up-cycled pallet garden too. I didn’t realize there were some seeds in there for these pretty little yellow and orange daisies.

Then this started growing, not sure what this is but it’s pretty. What a nice surprise when this happens. Seeds we forgot about, came back to visit us this Spring.

DSC_3857.JPG

The doves and sparrows are getting tamer. While I am working outside on furniture they just hang out up on the garden wall watching me. I think they are so cute with their chubby little bellies.

The chickens are back to laying eggs.

DSC_3996.JPG

The first day it warmed up we got 9 eggs in one day, the next day 7 and it kept going like that the whole week. We only have 5 chickens. We had so many eggs we had to start giving some out to our neighbors. I will have to do some egg decorations for Easter later and share those posts with all of you.

Remember this? My old school bench I received from my Italian mother-in-law down the street.

DSC_2476.JPG

Well I finally decided how to update it. I wanted to keep it wood but it is just a wood veneer covering it and I wouldn’t have been able to sand down the old stains and burn marks that were on it. I did the next best thing…I painted it.

DSC_3949.JPG

Then I spent a rainy day inside stenciling a design on it. It is still a far way from being finished but slowly, slowly it is getting done. The cats seem to be enjoying it. They are so funny about their territories.

DSC_3873.JPG

On one really wet and cold day (cold for us Arizona desert rats that is) I decided to make my family grilled cheese sandwiches with pickles. I used my husband homemade bread. I filled a huge pot with 1 can of crushed tomatoes (28 oz.) I whole onion, peeled and cut into quarters, 2 cups of chicken stock (you can use vegetable stock if you are a vegetarian) and 3 tablespoons of butter. I got it to a simmer and then let it simmer for 40 minutes. Home made tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches on a raining day is so delicious. Leave the onions out, just use them to flavor your soup while it simmers. Then we watched old black and white classic movies.

DSC_3861.JPG

Later that night I worked on a little bed for Alley Cat.

DSC_3611.JPG

I had fun with this project, watching old movies and sewing away. I added pom poms to it for a colorful look.

DSC_3816.JPG

Alley cat seems to enjoy her new pillow. No more cold hard services, although mostly she lays on people and beds.

DSC_3828.JPG

These tiny wreaths are the only craft project I was able to work on this month for no other reason then just for fun.

DSC_3910.JPG

It isn’t my idea so I have to give credit to the crafter who inspired me to make some of these adorable little wreaths (https://pattyschaffer.typepad.com/capture_the_details/2010/03/monday-make-it-spring-baby-grass-wreath-html).

DSC_3914.JPG

They are so easy. I bought some little bunny erasers to add to mine. I have done wreaths similar to this for Christmas using garland but never using yarn, what a cool idea. All it takes is some wooden or plastic curtains rings, then wrap yarn around them and glue in place.

DSC_3891.JPG

With that box of lemons I received last month from our neighbors I made some lemon cleaner. I just filled some mason jars with sliced lemons and poured in white vinegar. I will let it sit for a few weeks then use the liquid to clean around my house with. Can’t forget to give some back to my neighbors, remember to keep sharing back kindness. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

We took a trip to a cactus garden, a date for my husband and I. Yes, we still do dates even though we have been married about 30 years.

DSC_3210.JPG

We have fun with it too, saying silly things out loud like “ This is the worst blind date ever, stop eating off my plate” or crazy things that are normal for a couple who have been together all these years to say to one another but would never have been tolerated on that first date.

DSC_2982.JPG

How uptight we all are when it isn’t necessary, just have fun with life, even on those first moments when you meet.

DSC_3177.JPG

This walk in the garden led to an art exhibit where the artist uses trash to create giant pieces of art. Garden hoses are made into flowers. Old bicycle seats, piano keyboards and license plates are turned into giant butterflies. I will have to do a more detailed post on this later.

DSC_3274.JPG

I was so inspired by that walk in the garden and “Trash art” that I went out the next week and had my son help me pick a bright new color to redo our back garden wall with. He picked a beautiful blue. My daughter calls it Tiffany blue.

DSC_3799.JPG

The garden wall was a black brown color before. Now that the rain has stopped I have been spending so much time out in my garden that all those other projects like that old school bench have been put on the back burner.

DSC_3966.JPG

But I didn’t forget dollar days at the thrift store which is Thursday in our state. That was worth a couple hours away from the garden. You will not believe what we got for a dollar…..this old sewing machine. It even came with the table, cord and peddle. My next project is to turn my husbands old office into a sewing room/guest bedroom.

Actually, I have a few followers that have gorgeous gardens popping out everywhere, but I do want to keep this post shorter then I normally do, so I am only adding one this month. I tend to go a little overboard with favorites sometimes. So if you have some pretty flowers or garden photos in a post of yours please add to comments and a link back…thanks. We all should be sharing flowers and things that put smiles on our faces. Remember the world is hurting right now, especially after what happened in Christchurch New Zealand, so continue spreading that kindness everyone.

Favorite new blogger I discovered-Home on the corner-mom and daughter creating together. https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/33952974

Another couple of crafters just doing their part in taking old things and making them pretty. Also, bonus points for creating together. Always like to see families working happily side by side. Check out their post on the scrabble tile wood sign. You guys are so creative, thanks for sharing.

Favorite new follower of mine that I am now following-Camie at camiescozycorner- https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/54771559

Such a sweet woman. She spends time in Montana now and then and talks about how cold it is. I have never experienced cold like that, well maybe once during a Winter storm up north near the rim. It gets cold up there. Camie makes you feel right at home with her crafts and lifestyle blogging.

That’s it for this month, if I haven’t included you please fill free to add a link in my comments back to your site. There are so many of you out there doing some great posts, thank you for that. Thanks for your likes, follows, comments and for stopping by for a visit to Our Little Red House this month. God bless you all and stay safe, healthy and happy out there in the world. Don’t forget to spread kindness. Happy blogging everyone.

Update on Emmy at Restless roots (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/124673962/posts/15775). Last month I asked all of you to keep Emmy, a sweet dog who spreads kindness to everyone in Nova scotia, in your prayers and well wishes. Emmy was having some health issues. This month Emmy is doing much better and there are new photos of her running around in the snow looking so happy…so thank you everyone for that.

Something sad happened this month in our world so I have a new request and a pretty big one if you ask me…please keep the whole world and the people of Cristchurch New Zealand in your prayers and well wishes. And instead of spreading more hate by looking for blame and reasons behind any violence, do the opposite. Do not allow distractions and lies to steer you into a world of blame, chaos and more hate…go to a place of love instead. The people that cause violence would enjoy knowing that their violence created more. Don’t let their mistakes become yours.

“ Returning violence for violence multiplies violence adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars…Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
