Favorite bloggers and updates for the month of March.

“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.”

Martin Luther King Jr.

I can’t believe March is just about over. Since I started getting things done in my life, it seems like life is just flying by. We got some rain again this month and even though it rained, I was still able to get some things done. Although all the pretty flowers starting to bloom everywhere in our garden are keeping me and my camera distracted, so I didn’t get too much done.

I have lots of little baby cacti to transplant that fell off from the main plant during one of our windstorms, or the birds got to them digging for worms. I love finding them on the ground. I just fill a tiny pot with some dirt and poke the broken cacti in and eventually they will root.

Some of our bulbs have finally come to bloom.

I was surprised to see some flowers blooming in my up-cycled pallet garden too. I didn’t realize there were some seeds in there for these pretty little yellow and orange daisies.

Then this started growing, not sure what this is but it’s pretty. What a nice surprise when this happens. Seeds we forgot about, came back to visit us this Spring.

The doves and sparrows are getting tamer. While I am working outside on furniture they just hang out up on the garden wall watching me. I think they are so cute with their chubby little bellies.

The chickens are back to laying eggs.

The first day it warmed up we got 9 eggs in one day, the next day 7 and it kept going like that the whole week. We only have 5 chickens. We had so many eggs we had to start giving some out to our neighbors. I will have to do some egg decorations for Easter later and share those posts with all of you.

Remember this? My old school bench I received from my Italian mother-in-law down the street.

Well I finally decided how to update it. I wanted to keep it wood but it is just a wood veneer covering it and I wouldn’t have been able to sand down the old stains and burn marks that were on it. I did the next best thing…I painted it.

Then I spent a rainy day inside stenciling a design on it. It is still a far way from being finished but slowly, slowly it is getting done. The cats seem to be enjoying it. They are so funny about their territories.

On one really wet and cold day (cold for us Arizona desert rats that is) I decided to make my family grilled cheese sandwiches with pickles. I used my husband homemade bread. I filled a huge pot with 1 can of crushed tomatoes (28 oz.) I whole onion, peeled and cut into quarters, 2 cups of chicken stock (you can use vegetable stock if you are a vegetarian) and 3 tablespoons of butter. I got it to a simmer and then let it simmer for 40 minutes. Home made tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches on a raining day is so delicious. Leave the onions out, just use them to flavor your soup while it simmers. Then we watched old black and white classic movies.

Later that night I worked on a little bed for Alley Cat.

I had fun with this project, watching old movies and sewing away. I added pom poms to it for a colorful look.

Alley cat seems to enjoy her new pillow. No more cold hard services, although mostly she lays on people and beds.

These tiny wreaths are the only craft project I was able to work on this month for no other reason then just for fun.

It isn’t my idea so I have to give credit to the crafter who inspired me to make some of these adorable little wreaths (https://pattyschaffer.typepad.com/capture_the_details/2010/03/monday-make-it-spring-baby-grass-wreath-html).

They are so easy. I bought some little bunny erasers to add to mine. I have done wreaths similar to this for Christmas using garland but never using yarn, what a cool idea. All it takes is some wooden or plastic curtains rings, then wrap yarn around them and glue in place.

With that box of lemons I received last month from our neighbors I made some lemon cleaner. I just filled some mason jars with sliced lemons and poured in white vinegar. I will let it sit for a few weeks then use the liquid to clean around my house with. Can’t forget to give some back to my neighbors, remember to keep sharing back kindness. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

We took a trip to a cactus garden, a date for my husband and I. Yes, we still do dates even though we have been married about 30 years.

We have fun with it too, saying silly things out loud like “ This is the worst blind date ever, stop eating off my plate” or crazy things that are normal for a couple who have been together all these years to say to one another but would never have been tolerated on that first date.

How uptight we all are when it isn’t necessary, just have fun with life, even on those first moments when you meet.

This walk in the garden led to an art exhibit where the artist uses trash to create giant pieces of art. Garden hoses are made into flowers. Old bicycle seats, piano keyboards and license plates are turned into giant butterflies. I will have to do a more detailed post on this later.

I was so inspired by that walk in the garden and “Trash art” that I went out the next week and had my son help me pick a bright new color to redo our back garden wall with. He picked a beautiful blue. My daughter calls it Tiffany blue.

The garden wall was a black brown color before. Now that the rain has stopped I have been spending so much time out in my garden that all those other projects like that old school bench have been put on the back burner.

But I didn’t forget dollar days at the thrift store which is Thursday in our state. That was worth a couple hours away from the garden. You will not believe what we got for a dollar…..this old sewing machine. It even came with the table, cord and peddle. My next project is to turn my husbands old office into a sewing room/guest bedroom.

Okay, that’s it for the month of March. I know, finally huh?…here they are, my favorite blogs this month.

Favorite photos- Mary at Home is where the boat is- https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/9347426/posts/2200209555

What a beautiful garden you have Mary. All the colors and your photos are amazing.

Actually, I have a few followers that have gorgeous gardens popping out everywhere, but I do want to keep this post shorter then I normally do, so I am only adding one this month. I tend to go a little overboard with favorites sometimes. So if you have some pretty flowers or garden photos in a post of yours please add to comments and a link back…thanks. We all should be sharing flowers and things that put smiles on our faces. Remember the world is hurting right now, especially after what happened in Christchurch New Zealand, so continue spreading that kindness everyone.

Favorite new blogger I discovered-Home on the corner-mom and daughter creating together. https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/33952974

Another couple of crafters just doing their part in taking old things and making them pretty. Also, bonus points for creating together. Always like to see families working happily side by side. Check out their post on the scrabble tile wood sign. You guys are so creative, thanks for sharing.

Favorite new follower of mine that I am now following-Camie at camiescozycorner- https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/54771559

Such a sweet woman. She spends time in Montana now and then and talks about how cold it is. I have never experienced cold like that, well maybe once during a Winter storm up north near the rim. It gets cold up there. Camie makes you feel right at home with her crafts and lifestyle blogging.

That’s it for this month, if I haven’t included you please fill free to add a link in my comments back to your site. There are so many of you out there doing some great posts, thank you for that. Thanks for your likes, follows, comments and for stopping by for a visit to Our Little Red House this month. God bless you all and stay safe, healthy and happy out there in the world. Don’t forget to spread kindness. Happy blogging everyone.

Update on Emmy at Restless roots (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/124673962/posts/15775). Last month I asked all of you to keep Emmy, a sweet dog who spreads kindness to everyone in Nova scotia, in your prayers and well wishes. Emmy was having some health issues. This month Emmy is doing much better and there are new photos of her running around in the snow looking so happy…so thank you everyone for that.

Something sad happened this month in our world so I have a new request and a pretty big one if you ask me…please keep the whole world and the people of Cristchurch New Zealand in your prayers and well wishes. And instead of spreading more hate by looking for blame and reasons behind any violence, do the opposite. Do not allow distractions and lies to steer you into a world of blame, chaos and more hate…go to a place of love instead. The people that cause violence would enjoy knowing that their violence created more. Don’t let their mistakes become yours.

“ Returning violence for violence multiplies violence adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars…Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

Martin Luther King Jr.

  5. Our neighbours across the road sent us over some eggs this week! I didn’t even realise they had chickens! I’d love chickens but would be so worried that the foxes would get them.

    Liked by 2 people

    1. I know, that is so sad when that happens. One of my followers had a whole bunch of chickens and baby chicks and something got to them all. That was so sad when I read her post. I am not sure if she replaced them or not. When I was a little girl we had a huge owl that would steal our chickens and even cats, unless the coyotes got the cats. That was really upsetting. I guess if you have a good coop they are pretty protected, but even that sometimes isn’t enough.

  6. Wow so much you got done! The blooms are beautiful. The bench turned out amazing. What a blessing all those eggs are. Love Alley’s new cushion. And I’ve cleaned with lemon, and vinegar but never thought of making a cleaner like you did.

    1. Thank you Margaret, I always look forward to hearing from you. Yeah, I was busy this month and very happy I got some of these projects of mine done. That cleaner looks so pretty up on a shelf. It isn’t my recipe, it’s been around for ages. It is so much better for us to clean with natural ingredients and lemons smell really good to me.

      1. I love the smell of lemons. When I use them for something, I keep the left over parts(if there are any) and use them to wash my hands lol.

also I love grilled cheese and tomatoe soup..lived on it as a teen through my vegetarian years, from a can of course lol

your baby cati remind me I lost the little one my daughter gave me last mothers day, it was fine I had just watered it the week prior then one day it looked like it had shrunk and died. I figured out it was because my hubby moved my incense pot from a shelf by the wii switch ( video game) cause it was dusting it with ash, well the ash must of killed my poor cacti!

love the xmas trolls, last year I found xmas troll fabric and made a bunch of shopping bags for myself and to give away.

love the cat pillow and love the bench, my cats too will claim all the furniture I bring into the house to paint, new and shiny they must claim it lol

    1. Cats are too funny, I will never understand why they love old beat up furniture every time we bring some in to fix up. It always makes me laugh. Love Campbell’s tomato soup in the can, we were out that day and I didn’t feel like going to the store so I checked our pantry to see what we could use from a recipe my husband gave me.

My husband and I separated and will soon be divorced! I’m happier than I’ve been in many many years and as God says don’t be with a wrathful man so I have such peace and happiness today. I will get back to my blogging and I have lots of things, hobbies, projects, all the things I love and I’m doing and new beginnings to blog about! 1. Awww…thank you. I love writing my monthly updates, it reminds me of writing in my diary when I was a kid. Every time I leave a quote in my monthly updates it has something to do with what is going on in my life that month. That quote from Martin Luther King Jr. was perfect for that month because there were some family members that were causing drama around that time and it all had to do with politics…which is insane to me. Why people fight over religion and politics will always confuse me. Anyway, that was in the past, those family members that were fighting are no longer really talking to each other and that is that. So sad to hear about you and your husband but happy to hear that you are moving forward and you have many things to look forward to now. Everyday is a new day for your new freedom and Joy. It is also nice that you are surrounded by your children, they keep us young, even when they are all grown up. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend over there and God Bless you all as well.

      1. Yes mu husband wasnt happy about it and still trying but that’s over. I don’t feel as stressed whether it be finances, personal, emotional he was just drama and didn’t know how to relax and enjoy the simple things in each dsy and complained about the silliest of things no matter what i was doing i was home and he was very insecure didn’t trust meand those are all his issues im not going to live a miserable life because of issues he has. Im over it u wish hom the best but im so at peace and happy just living in each day amd I love having my son with me! At times he gets diwn because hes living eith his mother but hey it’s all fine by me. I wish my husband the best but we grew apart and on my end its just not there anymore. I wish him all the happiness in the world and im great doing ehat im doing. Ill gwt to blogging life gets busy and my 2 dogs are like having children or with Bella it is. 10. Thank you, I am doing the free plan with wordpress still but I have a domain with Go Daddy that is kind of on hold at the moment. I have the name but I just haven’t done anything new with the website. I used to change the design on the website about 4 times a month with articles and all kinds of info. I would get about 1,000 visit during my popular months. I haven’t done anything since then. I had all these plans, then I got sick and had surgery, was not 100% myself for about a year but now I am slowly trying to catch up on all those goals. I even wanted to start doing nature crafts on YouTube, will eventually get to things one baby step at a time…I hope. Anyway here is the website I mentioned above http://www.ourlittleredhouse.com. At the moment I am still working on a art/photo/ coloring book of Arizona. Okay, I am off now. Have a very Happy 4th and remember, just follow what’s in your heart and do the things that make you happy.

      11. I just wrote a long reply and it just disappeared…weird. Anyway, guess I will try again. I have a website http://www.ourlittleredhouse.com but I am using the free domain on wordpress. I haven’t done anything with the website in months. I need to work on that. For now I am having fun designing a art/photo/coloring book of Arizona. I am behind on a ton of my goals but hopefully I will catch up. Keep writing and creating, if its makes you happy, it;s always good. Thank you for the encouragement too. It makes me happy when others enjoy reading my stories. Have a great week.

      15. You too, just came in from a swim outside. The stars are so bright in the sky. I got scared as well when I started hearing the fireworks going off around me, never know when one might be a gunshot. We have a lot of guns in our state. I heard sirens after one popping noise, so I came in. Stray bullets are never good. Try hitting church sales, yard sales, and thrift shops for yarns. I just got about 9 rolls of vintage yarns in a bag at a church sale for $2. Online they sale about 4 for $30 or more. They are wool and mohair, very nice too. Also thank you, I love creating things.

      16. I just had that happen to me 3 times I think its the keys were hitting and I sit down to blog and start reading its over lol
