“A little bit of country is good for the soul.”

 

We are so happy to finally have a truck. Remember the accident my husband was in a couple months ago? Everyone was okay and that is the most important part and now we have a vehicle to drive up north with.

The day we headed up north there were leaves starting to turn. By the time you guys read this post that probably won’t be the case. It is getting cold a lot sooner this year. One of our friends up north is a farmer and he talked about this weather pattern and the changes that were coming. I love it when he educates my son on growing things and the science behind that.

On the drive up, one of the neighborhoods we drove through had some beautiful homes for sale. This one here was my favorite. In the back is a wooden porch balcony right over a beautiful creek down below. It is the perfect place to sit and read a book while listening to the sounds of nature.

This one was huge.It was right across from the other one. The homes in this area run around 390,000 and up. In Arizona, homes are a bit on the pricey side, think that has something to do with the weather out here. I am always looking at beautiful homes in Kentucky and Tennessee. They are gorgeous and you get so much for your money too. Never lived in those areas but they look so pretty. I am terrible with snow though.

There was a little free library in the neighborhood. That is always a good sign. Means there are lots of readers to share books with each other. I might make some pretty bookmarks to drop off the next time we head up north. Just paying it forward as they say.

On the way to Our Little Red House there was a man selling Bar-b-Que ribs so we stopped off and bought some for a picnic by the creek.

We also stopped off at a Western store to check out what they had for sale. It’s a family shop and there were two brothers working the day we visited. One of the brothers told me that their parents were hoarders so they bought the building and put everything in it to sell. They even had family photos of theirs they were selling, which I ended up buying one from them. Thought it was a funny story.

The brother explained to me that their sister took all the new photos of the family (probably of her) and left all the old photos to do what ever with. I loved the photo I picked up for $1. It tells a story of a family out having a picnic together. It would be a great wall mural in a cafe or restaurant. Look at those old coke bottles on that table…very cool. I wonder if the two men in the back were the brothers working in the store that day, I forgot to ask. Should have asked why the sister didn’t grab this photo, maybe because it was about eating and who enjoys having their photo taken when they are stuffing their mouths…that’s just mean. I love the photo though.

There are flowers everywhere up north right now. I had posted about this in my monthly updates so some of my followers will be getting this twice. They are so pretty, guess I need to share them twice with you all.

When we got to Our Little Red House I saw Morning glory vines everywhere.

I collected some to take back to the city with me. I always take some of these vines to weave little nest baskets with, for Easter morning that is. They look so pretty on the table.

Our neighbor stopped by to invite us up on the hill to the museum. He wanted to show us what they have been working on while we were away. That place is coming along so nicely.

They have many plans for the museum. One includes ice cream socials.

I love sitting up on their old porch watching the sun go down. If not careful you can fall asleep up there because it is so quiet.

After visiting with our friend we headed down to the pond down the street. There was a full moon so the light out was soft and pretty. Up north in the country you can see so many stars up in the sky.  That pond is the perfect place to hang out and sit on the bed of the truck gazing up to the heavens. Millions of tiny little diamonds light up the sky.

Later that night we watched an old VHS tape. We have several old movies up there in our library so it was hard to decide what to watch. The library is filled with donated books, tapes, and coloring books that we picked up from friends and second hand shopping when we were repairing the old home. Remember we have no cable, phone or computer in Our Little Red House. That old VCR and all those books give us all plenty of choices when bored after a long day of rebuilding.We finally got down to 3 choices Forrest Gump, Silverado, and Jurassic Park, the first one that is. We decided on Jurassic park, which our grown kids had never seen. They have also never seen Goonies either. We will have to watch that next time.

We ate left overs that night and for desert we had apple cider donuts. We usually pick up pumpkin donuts when we visit up north for the Fall but I switched things up and bought apple cider this trip. This is a once a year treat, it’s a Fall tradition. At Easter we buy raspberry coffee cake.

The next morning I got up and made a hot cup of tea with honey. Then I went exploring for some more little flowers and clippings to take back to the city with me for art supplies.
