Happy Veteran’s Day everyone. Thank you, to all the Veterans and first responders out there. For serving our country. For protecting others. A little over a month ago I had a chance to visit our art museum here in the city. The museum is under construction at this time but my favorite exhibit was still open to see. That exhibit is the Thorne miniature rooms.

Narcissa Niblack Thorne donated 20 miniature rooms to the Phoenix art museums years ago.

In those rooms there is such detail and so much to see. I could spend hours here and still I am sure I would miss something.

It was Mrs. Thorne’s uncle that originally got her started on miniature doll houses.

When he traveled the world he would always pick up antique miniatures for his niece.

Later she would start designing and making her own miniature doll house pieces starting in the 1900’s.

She married one of the Montgomery Ward heirs who had enough money to keep her hobby going.

During the great depression she was able to hire some of the top architects, interior designers, and craftsmen in the united states to help create these miniature rooms of hers.

In the rooms there are bowls made of silver, and real crystal chandeliers.

They even have original works of art done by artist like Fernard Leger, Hidreth Meire, and John Storrs.

Some of the rooms are replicas of actual rooms.

The art Institute of Chicago has most of the Thorne miniature rooms. At the art institute they decorate the room for Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Years. Mrs.Thorne loved Christmas.

This is one of my top places to visit here in our city.

If you ever stop here in Phoenix Arizona check out the art museum and stop off to see some truly amazing pieces of art. For all you frugal types with families (that would be me, no shame) they have free days on Wednesdays after 3 pm and the first Friday of every month in the evenings are free. Some really talented and gifted individuals left us all some beautiful items to admire decades and even centuries later.
