Okay, I know there are some of you out there that have a whole closet full of toilet paper. I watched the clips along with the rest of the world as people not only loaded up their carts with toilet paper but I also saw women smacking each other over these precious rolls of tissue that became like gold overnight. I am sure there are men out there punching each other for this too but the clips I have always seen are always showing women…what is up with that. How the world has changed. Used to be news clips of people fighting over shoes and wedding dresses during extreme sales. I will never get that. They are acting like a child who throws a tantrum. Some people I guess just never outgrew their spoiled ways. They will stomp their feet, pull, grab, yell and take something they want by any means necessary. I will never blame a little child for acting up, they are still trying to figure out how the world works around them, but an adult acting this way is strange, so weird. I come from the school of if you can’t afford it, or you just can’t get it, then it just wasn’t meant to be and something else (usually better) will eventually show up. That “usually better” turns out to be a valuable life lesson in most of these scenarios.
Alright, on with this craft. Because we have toilet paper everywhere then there will be lots of these rolls around and since we have children stuck at home because the schools are closed there will be lost of bored kids as well. Why not combine the two. My husband told me the other day people were calling TP rolls, toilet paper seeds. I thought that was funny, never thought of it that way. Wouldn’t that be nice if it were true.
Supplies needed:
Glue- now if you don’t have glue on hand then you can make a paste using flour and water. But I would think you are saving that flour for a rainy day. I still have tacky glue on hand in my home so that is what I used for this project.
Yarn, twine, or any kind of string you have on hand.
Markers to color with.
Clothespins
Scissors
Crepe paper
Green construction paper
Green felt
Step one- Find an empty TP roll, if you are one of the unlucky ones and just don’t have this in your home anymore then use a paper towel roll or even a wrapping paper roll. If you don’t have any of those items, then use an old cereal box and cut that down.
Step 2- Cut TP roll in half.
Step 3- then cut that into a triangle to shape into a cone.
Step 4- It may take some work to shape into a cone. Once you get the desired shape add some glue and clothespin ends down while it dries. I trim the top down so everything is even. You should have a cone shape of some sort after everything dries.
Step 5- I picked orange colored yarn, twine and whatever strings I had around the house to wrap my cones with.
Step 6- I added a little glue to ends and started wrapping string around cone, making sure to add more glue the more I went up the cone.
Step 7- let it all dry overnight.
Step 8- You can use whatever you have on hand to make the tops of your carrots. I used crepe paper for some of the carrots.
Step 9- I only had white so I used a green marker to add some color. If your child is doing this remind them to be very gentle because crepe paper tears easily. This would probably be a good lesson on being gentle. A great way to practice this skill.
Step 10- If using construction paper just cut the ends down a strip, then roll it up and pop in into TP roll and glue in place.
The construction paper is the easiest to work with.
Spread out the paper to give it some fullness.
You can also use green felt the same way.
Add your carrots to your bunnies and chicks for a pretty Easter display.
If you don’t have any of these supplies on hand you can use an old book, newspaper, ads, poster paints in place of yarn, and old clothes in place of felt. Just get creative using what you have on hand. Hope you all liked this TP craft and I hope we all see more toilet paper on the shelves soon. I will try to post a TP craft once a month. First off, your craft idea is really cute and timely. I’m sure that since people are staying home and thus going to the bathroom in their own homes, there are a lot of TP rolls to be used up. This is a perfectly adorable upcycling project.
LOL but I have to share something. The idea of a TP craft right now is disturbing to me due to personal frustration at a bad call by me.
Since we are both recently retired and need to be more careful with money, I told Les (about 2 months ago) that we do not need to buy a 24 roll pack of TP. We went with the 6 pack and THEN the chaos hit. I told Les, we don’t need to go get into the fray, we have 4 more rolls. We will wait until it dies down. NOW there is no TP anywhere to be found up here. Yikes! How could I be so wrong TWICE?
As the oldest of 6 kids, I have seen plenty of diaper pails so I’m not really too worried- although I do hope that it does not come to that. 😀
At any rate, I’m glad to see that your cute craft is with the rolls and not the actual TP .

Oh I feel for you, it is no fun to run out of toilet paper. When I was a kid and this happened we lived pretty far from stores. I loved living by a mountain but hated the dirt road we lived next to. Anyway, my dad would always tell us kids to get the newspaper and rub it together until it got soft then use that as toilet paper. When we complained he said “At least you aren’t out in the woods, otherwise you would be using leaves” I was so embarrassed. This was back in the 80’s so I never invited too many friend over much in case it was one of those days when we were out of TP.

LOL, yep, us too. I told Les that it’s a good thing that we have a lot of newsprint around so at least our butts won’t be inky. 😂

That is funny. I hope the toilet paper starts coming back. So many people being greedy and taking advantage of these times by overcharging for items that normally are pretty cheap and easy to find. I don’t blame people now for hoarding, who knows when anyone will get an item if they don’t. Sometimes I think there are people out there just doing these things to create chaos and anger in our environment.

Oh yeah, I will never understand that. I think people get bored, they have no passions in life and they think chaos, hate, and confrontations are great ways to feel alive…but it always leaves a bad after taste. It is much better to find the things you love and be in peace.

Awww…thank you, just made my day. You are right, everyone should make things as much as possible and buy local items. I have no problem with buying handmade items from other areas and countries but when we make our gifts and buy from small businesses and farmers in our area it helps the planet and keeps the kids creative.

Thank you Lisa. For years when my kids were little I would save these rolls. I also saved egg cartons for the same reason. Then when I volunteered teaching art to kids in the school by our house, Autism groups, birthday parties, and up north where there are mostly rancher’s kid, I used cheap supplies to create art with. A lot of kids can not afford art supplies so I had to supply everything and that included paint. One time we made horses with yarn tails and paper manes with TP rolls. That was my favorite TP craft but that one came from a homeschooling site years ago. This carrot I just thought of the other night but I am sure this is out there somewhere in the world. There are a lot of creative people on this planet.

My friend, I absolutely adore these! You ALWAYS have the very best ideas! I’ve shared this on social media and hope others will come and join the fun too. Heaven knows we have plenty of *empty* rolls around! Trying to find actual full rolls anywhere though is another story! (sigh)
The story you shared about seeing videos of women smacking each other made me both angry and saddened at the very same time. I don’t know what in the world is going on with people, but far too often, it isn’t good! These types of situations in life either bring out the good or worst in people. Unfortunately, we are seeing too much of the bad extreme.
These carrots are just adorable, though. What a creative use for reusing those empty rolls! I’d always seen these for sale on Ebay and other craft stores. Now I know why! 🙂

Awww Holly, always so sweet, thank you for being that person to everyone. We are all doing fine over here. My uncle is doing better the last I heard, so that is good. Thank you for prayers and thank you God for helping him fight whatever is wrong. He has heart issues or something going on, plus he is a heavy drinker so that could be it. Not sure what got him in the hospital but he started having seizures . Then they put him on the respirator to help him breath, he developed pneumonia but it was mild and was able to get off the respirator but then a day later he was having trouble breathing again and his oxygen levels were low so he was back on it again. Then a couple days later they took him off. He wasn’t tested for the virus the last I heard. These are strange times.
I did n’t know they sell TP crafts on Ebay, very smart, especially now. I want to make a pretty little mother’s day basket with a TP roll for next month. It has been a rough month this month and I would love to get to work on some more fun DIY’s but there are other issues to tackle right now. Hope all is well with you and yours too.
