Look what I made shopping around my house for items, this little sewing corner. Believe or not, this project kept me sane and happy when we were going through our pandemic lock down. We didn’t leave our house for two whole months. Staying home, turning items I would normally toss or get rid of not only saved a ton of money but it helped the environment too.

 We had items delivered to us. I used boxes from deliveries and made them into pretty storage containers.

We also had empty glass jars from food that I used for storage.

In our backyard there were some old shutters that needing cleaning. I cleaned them up one day and sealed them. While they dried I checked our pantry and other rooms for items I could add to the shutters to make a fun wall organizer to hang above the sewing area.

They were pretty beat up and the paint was chipping away like crazy.

I spent a day scrubbing the old paint off as much as I could. I like the weathered look though so I didn’t scrub too hard.

I had a bunch of coat racks that hang up on the wall that I had been collecting for the kid’s room up north but never got around to that. I will be doing that on my next trip up north. When you start shopping around your home for items you realize all the unfinished projects you have. I added that one to my list of “Stop procrastinating and get it done” stuff. What the heck am I waiting for anyway…another lock down. I pray all the time that we don’t end up in another lock down situation again.

This sewing room project was just what I needed during our lock down.

There was an old dish rack that fell apart that I still had wooden pieces from .

 I was going to turn them into frames with 3D art. I instead made tiny shelves for my wall organizer.

Baskets and containers from holiday gifts made perfect little areas to store the small items in. I think some of these items had candles or candies in them. I save things for storage when ever they look pretty. Sometimes the package the gifts come in are just as nice as the gift.

An old doll house furniture piece was a cute way to organize small scraps of fabrics.

Drilling holes in the clothing rack organizer (what are these things called anyway?) I call them wall coat rack hangers. I added some wooden skewers to store spool threads on.

This was an old baskets that I painted with chalk paint then drilled into wall unit. It holds in folded fabric nicely. A vintage sewing box sits on top filled with needles.

You will have to use a strong glue like E600 if you make one of these wall units yourself.

In the sewing room I also added pretty fabric pieces to inspire creativity. Two items that were gifts. A really beautiful scarf and a detailed blanket with a colorful folk art scene on it.

Some of you have already seen this fun way to display fabric samples. Just take an old frame and remove the glass then add wire to the back. Cut out cardboard butterflies and decoupage fabric onto them. When you want to see what fabrics work well together just clip the butterflies side by side and step back. When you run out of that fabric, replace the butterfly with new fabric samples you have,

Since this was a creative space I added fun lights. Garden and Christmas lights to add some cheer.

It got a little busy, but everything is organized and I know where to put things back now, so it works for me. I like my spaces to be very colorful when creating.
