July updates.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

1 John 4:18

July was a merry go month. You know, like a Merry-go- round at the amusement park. It feels like the whole world is stuck on a Merry-go-round right now. We’re never really getting anywhere, just always going around in the same circle.

It was my birthday this month. Instead of a cake we all went out for milkshakes. We spent the day up north where the temps are cooler and had fun exploring around town. The creeks, lakes and parks were closed around the time of my birthday. I wanted to explore the creeks and have a picnic. When life gives you a bowl of lemons, you all know what to do…time for some good old fashioned sweet lemonade. I missed the creeks but still had a lot of fun shopping.

Here in America, July is a month of celebrating our independence. You will notice a lot of flags in this months photos.

On the drive up north I noticed that last years damage from the wildfires was getting some green back. Little hard to tell from the photos below but there are little pockets of green when you drive by which is really striking in it’s contrast with the black of the burned cacti.

I found some really unique items shopping at the antique shops. I have a fun post filled with a bunch of photos from that trip to share with you all later.

A colorful little tea towel that may be turned into a pillow later.
The colors on this wooden box were so pretty. I think the lid is covered in enamel. I need to clean the inside out some. It cost $4. IT will hold tiny sewing supplies.

We stopped off at the Western store to check out their new boot designs. My daughter picked up a new pink cowboy hat to add to her collection.

For my birthday I got some really fun card games, with one set of cards being an Uno set that had classic toys printed on the cards.I also got about a dozen air plants, along with a little glass bottle of fertilizer. They are so cute. They remind me of sea urchins and plants in the sea.

I worked on some more coloring pages. If you read my garden updates post from this month then you will remember the little story about the beetle I rescued. That day I doodled up this page. It’s so fun to doodle, very calming after a day of working. Remember, I don’t use pencils, just black pens and what ever mistakes may happen just get worked into the drawings. This keeps the pressure off of perfectionism. I remember all the art classes I took in my teens and when I was in my twenties. All those assessments and the pressure of getting a good grade made art not so fun. Just grabbing a black marker and drawing what ever comes to mind and not caring about mistakes or anything made art fun again.

On one of our rainy days I decided to work on organizing all my yarn. This turned into a three day project.

Once I had it all organized and put away by colors, I was inspired to create something. So I made some new basket designs and a pom pom bird garland for the big window out in the the Arizona sun room.

We tried to get some sun time in too. Those UV rays, if done in small doses during the early hours are a great source of Vitamin D.

I discovered a birds nest in one of the trees above the pool one day.

When I looked closer I saw that there was a dove sitting in it. And very close by was another dove hanging out near it. That night there was a huge storm that shook the house. The winds were really bad. Not that far from us, there was a micro burst that took out hundreds of huge decades old trees. I thought about those two doves that were hanging out by the nest getting through a storm and worried about the little nest not making it. The next morning when I went outside the nest and the two doves were still there. I designed a coloring page later that night of little birds in a nest during a rain storm.

It’s hard to see the nest between all the branches and leaves but it is up there.

My husband taught our son how to grow edible mushrooms this month. We cook mushrooms with everything. Scrambled eggs, mushroom tacos, mushrooms on our pizzas, mushrooms in our salads, mushroom cheese sandwiches, and mushrooms in our pasta. Think I’m a bit of a mushroom fanatic.

I haven’t been online as much, that’s why this month I don’t have a favorite posts lists. My husband had to redo my whole system on the laptop because Windows kept stalling it with updates every time I got on to write. It was so frustrating. I also had to clear out some strange Spam I received, it was page after page of hateful words , and perverted words along with codes…so strange. Have any of you received Spam like that before?. It was just nasty perverted words and codes one after another. Everything was a mess on my laptop and now I have to learn a whole new system since my husband just got rid of Windows. Turns out I am not the only one this is happening to with Windows.

Well I am back on now and everything so far seems to be working. I even had a chance to catch up with some of you out there and got to read some posts. That was also a challenge with my laptop this month. None of your posts were loading for me. It just kept going to updates all the time. My laptop kept sticking. I am not a technical person, I had no idea what the heck was the matter. Wait, that didn’t sound right. Scratch that last sentence…I am not that great with technology…there, that sounds a bit better. Think you get the point either way.

When things get frustrating there is always our fish to watch to calm down. Computers can be so annoying. Think the fish would agree too.

That’s it for July. I try to end all my updates post with prayers to send out there in the world. There are just so many places that need our prayers right now. We can start with the floods, they are everywhere. Just here in Arizona we lost two little girls to flooding this month. Pray for the ones in the flooded areas. Riots are still going on around the world. Pray for people to remain safe in places of chaos. Pray for the ones that go out there to protect others from harm. There is violence. Pray for the ones who are targets, pray they remain safe and no harm comes to them. Then there are the lies and hate that’s creating a division. This to me is the most important prayer. To end the lies and the hate will stop the fuel that is causing a lot of these unnecessary events to happen. When we walk in love, and we walk in light, there is no fear because we walk with God.

The more we hear and see lies over and over being repeated to us, the more chance those lies have of becoming our truths. Stay strong, safe and have courage. Also guard your hearts like never before. Everyone has something they worry about or fear. We all try really hard not to let it interfere in our lives too much. My worry is that we are going to get hit in the coming months with a lot of hate and that is why it is so important to guard your hearts. Counteract the hate train by doing kind things and looking out for your friends, family and neighbors. Avoid confrontations and touchy subjects, walk away if that comes up. We are becoming more and more of a throw away nation and that includes throwing away relationships as well…try to not go to that place, always walk in light.

God bless you all from all of us at Our Little Red House. Thank you so much for your likes, comments, visits and follows. I will be taking the month of August off from blogging. Until then I will have some pre-scheduled posts and re-posts in case you would like to stop by for a visit. We might even head out of the city for awhile. Have a beautiful August filled with many adventures and happy days.

Coming up in August…

Alley cat stalking the new flowers we put out. She always jumps on the table when there is a vase full of flowers. She loves smelling them but she hates getting caught doing it. If the vase is full of faux flowers she jumps down and meows really loud like she is so disappointed. This month we picked up some fresh flowers for the kitchen.

  2. You certainly had a busy July! Happy belated birthday. I love your drawings. That’s such a fun thing to be able to do.

    1. Thank you Lisa, I have seen your art and it is so pretty, you really have a gift there, should do more. Drawing does calm the spirit. Summer time in this state is mostly about shopping and staying inside where the air conditioning is. Sadly the creeks and woods up north have had a hard season with wildfires so they have been closed but all these rains we have been getting have fixed the fire problem. Now we just have flooding and lots of run off from the fires we had which makes things very dangerous up north. I can’t believe how fast this summer is flying by.

      1. This summer really is going fast. I just want to grab the reigns and slow it down! It’s been a nice summer here, even with some muggy days and some minor flooding in this area. We are lucky that most of our summers aren’t super hot. Right now the temps are quite cold – I can’t stand the humidity but I hope for a few warmer days before the summer is over so I can take the kids to my dad’s above ground pool.

      2. My husband and I are looking at real estate in Tennessee, South Carolina, and Kentucky. I don’t want to move but Arizona is getting so packed with so many people here in this city and I am afraid for the water situation. They keep tearing down homes and building huge apartments everywhere. Homes in the city are being bought up at high prices, way over what they are worth and then they are turned into rental homes by the corporations that are buying them up. With so many HUGE apartments being built all over the place, I don’t know where the water will come from decades from now, when my son and daughter will be older. We need to find a place to park them so they won’t be stuck in a cruel city when they are much older and my husband and I are no longer around…sad subject but one we have to plan for. This month I was suppose to take off and work on my Christmas DIY book but instead we are trying to get rid of things for a move as well as figure out where that move will be. Also, the city has changed drastically since our new mayor (she moved here from California) took over and crime has exploded here in the city. The small local politicians all seem to be from California, not all, but enough to notice. They are now trying to dismantle and tear apart our police force here because of something a few cops did here during a protest that could have turned ugly, just silly games and a coin. I try to stay away from that as much as possible since it is such a heated subject. I, like all moms out there, worry for my children and that never goes away, They could be in their old ages and if I were still around I would still worry and see then as my babies. I hate the the idea of moving but my husband and I are seeing that we really have no choice in this matter if we want the best outcome for our son and daughter and their furure.

      3. I hope it doesn’t come to that, but I can’t blame you for being concerned and for the desire to find something better. I wish you luck in your search. I wouldn’t recommend coming where I am – our governor isn’t very friendly.

      4. Me too, I hope we can find a somewhat safe spot. I wouldn’t recommend Phoenix either. It is very strange here. We have a governor battling our city mayor, sheriff, and small local politicians from different districts around the city. We actually have a lot of them battling it out. A lot of these new politicians battling it out with our governor ( which everyone goes back in forth with trusting him) have come here from California. Doesn’t make sense to why someone would leave a state because they were not happy with the laws and rules from that state to go to another state that has totally different laws and rules to only move there to change them to what they moved away from. Doesn’t make sense at all…or maybe it does. Phoenix and this state for some reason seems to be one of the hot spots, just as it is for your state as well. The states I was looking into moving to were Tennessee ( I am praying for them, so sad what happened) South Carolina, and Kentucky. I have some cousins who live in Missouri (too cold) Arkansas (ice storms) and Oklahoma ( tornadoes). The area around OLRH is around Payson, Arizona. Beautiful spot but I worry about the wildfires that are purposely ( people are getting caught, even if news doesn’t want to focus on that) being set in rural areas. What a time we are all living in. I always say this, that ” I have not prayed as much as I have these past years, then from years ago” , and something new everyday always pops up for more prayers. Thankful that we have food, shelter, my family is here and we are safe. Just take things a day at a time. God has this and it is comforting knowing he is by our sides. The way the world is now, so many will loose their faith and we need that more then ever during times of distress. Also prayers for the people stuck in Afghanistan…so sad.
