Hey everyone! This is a re-post of a Dollar Day Do-over originally posted in May, 2021 . I thought you might like it as it is a very easy Shabby Chic DIY. Enjoy
“ When I make of my hands, I give of my heart.”
I went out junking the other week and came across this jewelry box. It was a little worn on the corners but I didn’t mind since I like worn and rustic things. Means they were loved. Like an old stuffed toy from childhood.
These boxes can be used for organizing small items too. I decided to make mine into a little sewing kit. While organizing for craft kits I came across several pre-cut miniature Teddy patterns of mine that I never got around to sewing up. This little jewelry box would be perfect for a tiny Teddy sewing kit.
Sewing as you know is a very calming craft. I prefer sewing by hand. I love the freedom hand sewing gives me. I can pack up a sewing kit and take it with me anywhere. The fun thing about sewing up little projects is surprising someone with it once it’s finished. I tend to get rid of my little creations once I complete them.
This is a pretty easy DIY. Just clean up the little box, then paint it a different color and decoupage some pretty fabric on it .
I also added some vintage embellishments for some extra pretty.
It’s a great way to keep all those tiny sewing supplies organized. Most of these boxes are wooden which I prefer over plastic. This whole make over cost me $3. The art supplies I had in my house already. Plastic organizers around this size in the big chain stores cost around $10-$20. And they aren’t pretty at all, just clear plastic drawers.
You can repurpose your vintage jewelry boxes for all kinds of items to organize. In a children’s room you can add tiny toys, crayons and art supplies, or even hair accessories. Another way to use them is to store small make up items, or turn it into a pretty junk drawer to organize all those little things we find that we don’t know what to do with. Which reminds me, I have to organize my junk drawer. I always save that for last. Happy repurposing.
