I finished my little acorn people, or faces…whatever you want to call them. I made about 50 pieces for a handmade event in our town, it’s where people make things and share them with others.I only had time to make so many before the event started. These will be handed out to children in our area until they run out. They were so fun to make.

When I was packing them up for delivery I noticed my little rescue cat was missing, so off I went searching for Alley cat. Years ago we found her in the alley back in the city where we lived. She was left by the garbage and moving boxes that had been dumped illegally in our alley. My dad used to call her a tiny thing.
I had to get up every three hours to feed her and she almost didn’t make it in those early months, she still had her eyes closed when my husband took the garbage out one afternoon and saw her on the ground crying, on a record temp day of over 115 degrees. But on the rocks it gets to 130f and above.
So here I was taking a photo of the acorns before they left the house and I noticed Alley wasn’t around. I had to stop everything to go find her, she is a senior cat now, but everyone still thinks she is a kitten.
The vet told us she is the smallest cat he works with, says she is what they call a micro queen. Super tiny. Anyway, she got out, and we had to find her because the hawks are aggressive right now in our area, we lost two teenage chicks, what I call teenager size. My daughter saw how one was taken by the hawk, it was really shocking to her.

We found Alley smelling the garden area, she always goes for the plants and flowers when ever she gets out. She was in the back area garden but we have a front area too that isn’t fenced off. Everything has to be fenced off to protect things from the wild things. We also have many fenced in areas to keep the chickens out of certain sections.
Alley doesn’t take to a leash, she is too small for most of them anyway, she slips out. We have big glass doors and windows and even a screen door for her to look outside and enjoy it that way, otherwise the raccoons and wild things out there will get her if we don’t keep her inside, she is just too tiny.

Back to my DIY, these felted acorns are super easy to make. Just needle felt simple round balls and glue into acorn tops, then sew little black beaded eyes on them and a tiny mouth with embroidery thread.

If you don’t know how to needle felt there are all kinds of beginner videos online to teach you how to do this.
Or you could buy a bag of small pom poms and glue those into your acorn tops, glue on tiny google eyes, and a small piece of yarn or thread for a smiling mouth. That would be a fun Fall project for the little ones. It’s a great way to work on fine motor skills too. They can use them to play with, to help with pretend play skills in their early years. It’s so important for children to learn play skills. Happy Fall crafting everyone.
