Back to the Little Lake.

” If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first” John 15:18

One morning I woke up and looking out my big window I saw what a beautiful morning it was and decided it was a good morning for a walk. As you all know, it has been awhile since I have been to the Little Lake.

The lake was beautiful as always, full of so much overgrowth. The rains we have been having brought all kinds of plants out.

The butterfly garden is really thick right now.

There was the cutest bee hopping around some flowers. I tried so hard to capture a good shot but I never seem to get that perfect shot when it comes to the bees. The lighting was a little dark. Every now and then tiny sprinkles of water would hit me from the clouds above. I love this kind of weather. I even like the fog, although it can be unsettling walking in it and not being able to see far ahead through it, it is still so interesting to see how it floats about with little peaks of trees and plants…that is pretty too.

The way this bee is looking at me seems like it is saying ” Hey, you taking a photo of me?”

The lake is surrounded by a beautiful thick wooded area, which is where I was headed. Walking through the woods you will come across little creeks and bridges, with turtles, frogs, squirrels and birds. If you are there early enough you may even run into deer, deeper in the woods, if you are extra quiet that is.

I love watching the Canadian geese when they come.

There are also mushrooms everywhere.

I take photos of the plants and mushrooms to send to my son who is studying biology at the university…I ask him to identify these photos for me please. Mom’s never stop with the homeschooling do they?.

And lots of beautiful and unique flowers.

I especially love the flowers.
An edible plant…but research yourself before trying any plant. This flower produces an edible fruit that can be made in to jellies or jams. The Native Americans also use it for medicinal properties when healing wounds and easing anxieties.

And look…acorns are coming out, which can mean only one thing…some nature crafts are coming up. I unpacked some more boxes and found my acorn doll kits to make. I think this is the year I will try to make some. Maybe when the snows start. I love watching the snow fall and working on art. I have two kits from Wee Folk studio by the artist Salley Mavor.

There are acorns at both our properties as well, they are everywhere around here in all sizes too.
The stitches are so pretty. I’m not at that level. When I finish this kit I’ll share a photo of what I was able to accomplish. It might be one of those funny nailed it moments. I have to paint the face too. The kit only includes a wooden bead to paint your own face.

In town there are a couple of groups that make little 3D printed prizes for kids and they hide them around different trails by the creeks, in trees and around boulders. Another group crochets little critters, like turtles, owls, and cute animals with big eyes…they hide those around trails as well.

Families meet up and go around with their children searching for the items. When they find them, they keep them. It encourages getting out, socializing and exercising. I like that, so sweet. Maybe I will add some prizes, needle felt critters and maybe some acorn people.

This is a good tree to hide a little prize in.

On this lake walk, I l stopped by the water for awhile to listen to it’s sounds, it’s so peaceful. I like to look over the bridge and search for fish and turtles.

I was gifted with a new book this month, it’s filled with all kinds of nature prints with children. It’s done by the Swedish artist Elsa Beskow. She grew up on Fairy tales and nursery rhymes. As a child she loved drawing trees and flowers and could spend hours doing that. She was born in the 1800’s so there was no Television back then, drawing and reading were the entertainment back in those days.

The book reminds me of the Little Lake. I will be framing some of the prints to hang at the historic home we are renovating. It fits in with the garden around the house, with trees surrounding it. The other day 5 little blue jays came flying into the downstairs room when my husband opened the window, and they stayed there for awhile looking around. I think they want to live in that room, so funny.

I walked the whole lake and the wooded area next to it and then headed back home.

But first I stopped by a tiny creek on the way back and stopped to listen to the water running. The storm was coming in and it started sprinkling a little harder now. What a beautiful morning walk. I’m glad to be back to the Little Lake.

Happy walking adventures everyone.

I need to write one last thing, and this is not to offend anyone, as it never should. I feel someone reading this post right now may need to see and read these words….

“Jesus loves you…he always has”

Please pray for peace everyone…the world needs this desperately right now. Keep praying for the future of all our children. God bless you and always keep you all safe.
