Thrift store treasures

We haven’t been out much lately when it comes to second hand treasure hunting. So I will be sharing something I picked up a few months ago. Right now my thrifted list is all about home hardware like curtain rods, drawer and door handles, all items to supply a home.

We need an ironing board and toaster. Even half filled bags of mortar or plaster for home remolding are nice finds when thrifting now days. It’s surprising what you can come across in second hand shops.

Anyway, I’m sharing something that I picked up in a little thrift store that I shopped at during one of my road trips. When I walked in it caught my eye, a little red pail. I believe I have shared this with you all in one of my updates months back. It was very Scandinavian in it’s style, a folk art piece.

Right next to the wooden pail was a sheep’s bell, or a cows bell, which ever animal you choose to use it for.

It’s so fun shopping those European gifts shops.
The flowers and hearts are so pretty.
So much detail.

The bucket was really colorful to me. I have two other wooden pails I purchased second hand, a very tiny one that I sometimes use as a photo prompt, and a plain wooden one that I also use in my DIY photos. Pails are some of my favorite prompts for photos.

Fresh homemade biscuits and homemade jam.

I can’t remember the exact price now but knowing me I wouldn’t have paid that much, I always have a limit in my budget. I know it was under $5 and the bell I believe was only at most a couple of dollars. The bell and the bucket seem to go together so I bought them both.

Later I was reading an old country magazine and saw this, a wooden pail for a really high price, I couldn’t believe it. I think they still make these pails, as souvenirs in foreign countries, foreign to me that is. So my little wooden pail could be one of those modern ones, which I believe it is. I like it so I’m keeping it, some people resale the treasures they find but I use mine for photos I take.

If you are ever out shopping be on the look out for wooden pails, you never know, maybe you will come across the one in the magazine article. Happy treasure hunting everyone.

ASD tips: Use your pails for counting activities. Print or make number cards, then put cards in front of pail and using items like marbles, pom poms, or small toys (they make cute erasers that can be used for counting activities) have your children count out the number of items to put into the buckets to match the card number.

Fishing game- draw or print out a fish coloring page. Glue fish to card stock then cut out shape. Add a metal paper clip to tip of fish head. Find a long twig that you can use as a fishing pole, strait and long. Tie a string to the stick, Glue a magnet to the end of the string. Now you have a little pole to fish with. Add your paper fish to the wooden pail, then have your children take turns fishing out the paper fish. This is an old classic game from the past. You can make this into a home school activity too by making a variety of fish to pull out of the pail, like the alphabet, numbers, sight words, shapes and colors. Playing and learning at the same time makes it extra fun.
