Blogmas day 5…A vintage inspired Christmas.

I’m still trying the best I can to continue with my recycled and repurposed frugal way of living. I actually have fun with it. I’ve been doing this for years.

A black and gold resin deer $2.50
Poor deer isn’t looking so good after I painted it. I need to work on this some more.

I love seeing what I can do to change things up a bit with items that lost their shine years ago. I come across Christmas decor from the 70’s to the 90’s on my bargain shopping adventures.

A wooden banner .50 cents

Sometimes I will get rid of something old, donating it back into that never ending system of us being renters of “Things” all the time, I will bring in a few items to replace the old I’m donating. It does seem more like renting then owning when we do that, doesn’t it seem that way?

A large sled $4.50. It had an old plaid ribbon on it. It had the feel of a country 1980’s decoration. Hunter green was a popular 80’s color for Christmas back in the day when I was a kid.
The red is so bright, I may chalk paint this with a flatter red.
I’m still working on this, now looking at it, it seems like too much red.

This year we are making gifts, and going on Christmas road trip adventures instead of buying a lot. We like to keep things really simple like we have been for years now. We like our new traditions.

I thought I share with you some Christmas decor I picked up one day in October when we stopped off at my favorite second hand shop in town. It was .50 cent day so it was a little busy. It was after a beautiful walk at the lake. We decided to do some early Christmas shopping. Everything is sold by the time November rolls around.

This little house is a Target store Christmas item from a couple years ago. They had them in the Dollar section. Cost .91 cents second hand.

I found all kinds of fun items. The store was packed with vintage Christmas. The night before I had been online looking through IKEA trees, hoping to find a small one to add to one of our rooms or on the kitchen table.

I wasn’t really happy with how the deer turned out, so I will be working on that over. I used chalk paint on the deer so it shouldn’t be too hard to doctor that up…it might be a nailed it moment. My Christmas decor is red and white like candy canes. I also try to bring in a lot of nature themed crafts.

It’s not working out…yeah, this is turning into one of those nailed it moments. I like the white better though. Removing some of the paint did help a little, I may just need to remove even more to bring out the details in the eyes. Sometimes when we are being creative we can take things too far.
I do like this pattern better though.

I also have this small wreath I bought for .50 cents to redo. I actually have a couple of wreaths and plant picks to make.

I went to one of the lakes around us to collect pine cones, maybe I will add some to the wreaths I am making.

Right now I’m waiting for tiny fairy lights to get here for our Scandinavian faux tree we have, it’s a skinny type tree. Most of our lights from the move from the city don’t work anymore, seems that move across the country was too much for some items.

Happy frugal decorating everyone.
