In the garden…smiling flowers everywhere.

Our sunflowers have finally popped up to say hello. We planted them in a different location this time. They are facing our French Doors that lead outside to our back yard. Every morning when I open up the windows I now have a view of rows and rows of Sunflowers everywhere. It’s really nice waking up to that.

When any of us are out there hanging up clothes to dry, which is an old habit from the desert we came from, summer time air drying, well…now when we are out there all kinds of butterflies and giant bumble bees are buzzing around.

That’s my favorite part about smiling flowers, they invite all kinds of visitors to drop on by too.

At our old stone house, at garden number two, our chickens are doing great, they have become tamer each time they see us. We throw out some corn and they are as happy as can be.

We have to check on them more now because of the heat. It gets warm here too we have discovered. We try to leave lots of water out for the wildlife. I watch as squirrels crawl down from our giant Oak trees to sip from the water we leave out, it is so funny to watch.

The garden at the old house is kind of all over the place. My husband went through his run bag and we had some old seeds, so we decided to throw them all into the ground and see what happens.

My son’s garden at the old house. Told him to put every seed out there to see what was still alive, so far this is the chaos all those seeds produced. What’s out there we asked him…”Oh, beans, melons, tomatoes, sunflowers, corn…I don’t know, everything you gave me from the bag.”

I’m just happy we are getting squash. Pumpkins would be nice too. It’s very green right now and I like that as well. We just wanted our grown children to go outside and try to grow something, get in that dirt, prep it, prepare it and plant something, anything and see the results. The purpose of this garden wasn’t organization…the purpose was showing them that this is what you can do all on your own…grow food. Now we just have to pray that nothing interferes with this God given gift we all should have. I hear rumors.

The tomatoes are kind of slow right now, so who knows what’s up with that.

The wild flowers are still blooming. I didn’t get a lot this year. Maybe the birds got to the seeds I planted.

Usually when we are at the old house I will work on projects while there. Repurposing old furniture from the place. It’s nice having a garden there, it makes it feel more like a home, even though it’s no where near that stage at the moment.

An old chair I found in the shop that I am restoring. There may be more up in the shop attic, we haven’t gotten to that part yet.

I’m doing little things right now, like removing nails from wood we are pulling out of the house to make the bathrooms bigger. We try to be as frugal as possible in all our rebuilds. Anything that is salvageable is saved for supplies in the rebuild.

We have to get up at 5am in the mornings to start working at the old house during the summer heat. The heat here can get dangerous too. There is no AC at the old house. It is rough.

If not working on the garden or renovation work, we will do some walking around the creek or take a walk around the lake instead. I look around and see how expensive everything is getting, the screens share bad news all the time about conditions around the world so our moments out walking in nature are especially nice.

Being frugal, and being busy building whatever it is, that’s so important. Taking something that is broken that just needs a rebuild that is always a good thing. You can find something at a thrift shop and remake it, that’s how it starts out, just find something little and fix it up and put it in your home. It’s fun and it keeps you off those screens.

Being out side in nature to me is also something this is always top of any list when it comes to entertainment for us. I love just standing on the bridge looking down at the creek and listening to the water. It’s so calming.

Sometimes I will spot some fish, or little crawdads, and my favorite is watching a well know giant turtle in the area that will slowly swim around looking for food. The children are out of school now, so they ride their bikes around the creek and some even jump in for a swim. The summer leaves keep the sun at bay by the bridges, and the breezes here are nice and cool…I love this part of the season.

This garden post was photographed one early morning on the way to an indoor yard sale, and since we were in the area, we stopped off at my favorite antique shop. These next photos are from the antique shop and I added some more garden photos, as well as the walk I took the other day.

That’s it in garden news. Happy gardening adventures everyone. Stay safe out there and God Bless you all.

Buy as many books as you can and start creating a library for your children and their future children.

Little spider by the creek.

Summer time wild flowers by the lake.

Dropping off some art by the creek. All the little stones I have been decorating are all getting taken. When I go back to check my spots, the little art rocks are gone. So someone is grabbing them. That’s my favorite part…someone is being gifted with something. Now we are noticing others are joining in and little children are leaving their own art now.

On the hunt for some vintage wooden ornaments .

I took a photo of the yard before all this grass was cut. With all the rain we were getting, the grass just took off and grew like crazy.

Favorite spot for having a quiet breakfast in peace.

Sunny skies.

Cute cow art.

I could spend hours over water just looking down at the little turtles and fish.

I’m always on the hunt for good paper, real paper, not the plastic stuff they try to pass off as paper now days. When there is no paper for an artist to create on, there are always rocks. A writer writes, a painter paints, a chef cooks, and an artist creates. What ever it is…I encourage everyone out there to find their passion and start doing it.

The little teens love following everyone around the garden.

1 John 5:21

Prayers are not about greed and power, some people are praying for the wrong things, no love or humbleness, just out for themselves. Or they lie and pretend to be something they are not just to grift others pretending to be victims, holding in hate and grudges for years, obsessing about it. I loved watching this because it may look like such a small prayer but it was a big answer from God…He is there, and He loves you.
