It’s hot out there. We need some rain, so hopefully we get some in a couple weeks. The El Nino forecast is that we will stay hot for awhile longer. At least it is nice and cool here in the mornings and at night, and if you have big ol Oak trees on your property then that cools things down too.

This month in the garden we got some spaghetti squash, pumpkins, green beans, peanuts, hops, lots of grape leaves, spoon tomatoes and one giant weed.

There’s this purple flower vine that grows everywhere here and every time one pops up in my garden I always think of the morning glory that grew around Our Little Red House back in Arizona.

“Oh that is so pretty, you planted some morning glory for me?” I will say to my husband, every summer garden too, same thing every year.

“I didn’t plant that, that’s a weed” my husband will say back.

We did try to grow some morning glory this year but the seed packets we bought at the big chain store did not grow anything. I will have to check with local gardeners next time and see if any of them have some.

The weed we have looks just like morning glory except a little thicker and it has those invisible stickers. The morning glory vines are perfect for weaving natural baskets and they don’t come with invisible stickers.

Well this year I took that weed with the big purple looking tulip flower thingies and I weaved a heart wreath with it. Like if life gives you a box of lemons make lemonade and if life gives you a bunch of weeds make heart wreaths with them.

We got the cutest little pumpkins in our garden this year, they sit on our kitchen table now. Maybe we will make pumpkin pancakes, or pumpkin muffins. My husband wants to make pumpkin soup. I just like seeing them on our kitchen table every morning, reminds me that Fall is coming.

There was a giant spider hanging out over the pumpkins, reminded me of Charlotte’s web in a way. Maybe that’s the only reason why we got pumpkins, that spider kept lots of garden critters away from the garden. I read the zipper spider is a good natural pest controller. She is still out there in our garden now. We just let her be.

With all the spoon tomatoes we got I decided to make some roasted tomatoes for toast. You just put them all in a deep dish with some virgin olive oil, add some whole garlic cloves and minced garlic, salt, onion powder for seasoning and if you want more seasonings add Italian seasoning to it as well, Then I baked it for about 30 minutes at 375F. After it came out of the oven I added shredded Parmesan cheese to the top.

To get in the Fall mood I even made a scarecrow out of some old denim pants. I felted a little crow for her and a little cat as well.

I also got to visit another garden . You can learn a lot from master gardeners. This garden I visited is run by a garden club. They know what native plants to grow in the area as well as how to take care of a garden during heat and drought conditions. It even rained a little the day I went to visit this garden.
