A visit to a Quilt festival

We are coming up on another season, and one of my favorites seasons too…Fall. This is the time of year when every weekend there are so many events going on in our part of the world that it’s hard to pick which ones to go to. I always pick the events that don’t cost anything and have free parking. With gas prices going up like crazy as well as food, you have to balance things out even more and plan trips accordingly.

If we are driving to another city that is hours away then we add some of the restore areas to visit as well, and other stores that we don’t have access to where we live outside the big cities. It’s nice taking little road trips here and there but it cost over $50 in gas to get to some of these spots and that can add up especially when energy, water and food are also increasing everywhere. Visits outside the city can take up a whole day because of all the stops at different stores.

Today I’m sharing with you all a quilt festival we went to. There were so many beautiful quilts. It was so hard to choose which was our favorites. We had two categories to vote in, one was for modern and the other antique.

The antique quilts were marked with A and a number to write down on our voting tickets.

I loved the colorful quilts.

There was also a band playing while people went around voting for their favorite quilts. It made me feel like I went back in time it was an old fashioned Ozark country event.

There were outside buildings and gardens to walk through while the band played off in the distance.

The weather has been especially dry and hot this summer, lots of record breaking days. The quilt fest had lots of giant oak trees around it and all those trees keep things cooler. And it was a cloudy morning so we also got a little rain.

The quilt I voted for was made by an older man that reminded me of my little Swedish Grandpa gnomes I like making. He explained that he took that quilt off of his bed that morning, packed the quilt up and brought it to the show. What an easy set up for an event. Just jump out of bed, grab your items and off you go. The quilts were all hanging from ropes strung from tree to tree. Quilters brought their dogs and a fold up chair with a cooler of cold drinks and they all sat around visiting and socializing about quilt making. It was like an old time festival from the past.

I had such a hard time voting. We could only vote for one modern quilt and one antique quilt. There was an antique quilt there from the 1800’s, unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of that one.

It was nice just getting outside, especially as we all have been cooped up inside because of the heat conditions. Except for really early morning walks and outside chores during the cooler hours of the day. I’m so looking forward to Autumn.
