Finally…the rain came. So what did I do when I saw the clouds out early in the morning? I grabbed an umbrella, my camera and went for a walk. Walking in the rain is always a special kind of treat.

This wasn’t one of those scary storms, this was just an early morning rain storm of soft little drops of water everywhere. I was so looking forward to just getting out and taking photos as I haven’t been able to do this for awhile. When the clouds are out, the light is extra special. It’s like a stage with lights coming through the clouds here and there.

I had a plastic grocery bag to cover my camera as the rain would come and go, so I made sure to protect it. I haven’t been out taking many photos over the summer. I guess I started feeling a little awkward with people wondering what I was up too. This is becoming a problem with me, I never had that before. I see so many shots, so many and I keep walking, taking in so much as it happens, those tiny moments in history once born and gone in the same breath. How fast time seems to fly, especially when you see it and are paying attention to it.
I don’t see many photographers out much anymore. I wrote about this in my last post. If someone wants a photo they just hold up their phone and shoot away now. Well, I’m back to taking the camera out with me, to see what there is to see.
It’s just you and nature usually, unless you run into a group of homeschooling families, couples walking their dogs, or other artists…oh, and one lone man playing frisbee golf by himself. Those were my visitors on this walk.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy coming along on this walk with me, it is breathtakingly beautiful out there right now.

I almost got a shot of a butterfly but I had my camera on auto focus and when I switched over to manual to get a close up a big black walnut fell down from the tree and scared the butterfly away, it was a beautiful butterfly too, with lots of colors. I will have to draw out a coloring page of the memory I have of this, especially when it opened it’s wings back and forth. What a show that was. The contrast of the colors of the butterfly against the dull brown of the dead leaves was really striking.

Just beautiful! My best picture taking of my dishes is on cloudy days. I also feel calmest in the garden on overcast even foggy days. You have a wonderful eye 🙂

Thank you, that made me smile. You are another one that loves those overcast days, I agree with you, they are so peaceful and calming being in days like that. I grew up in a place where the sun was out most of the time, all year always sunny. That was Phoenix Arizona and now I’m experiencing what living with the clouds is like. Foggy days are so surreal to me as well, so different in photography to wake up and see the whole environment has changed and when the fog starts to go you get tiny glimpses of the beauty that was hidden within it. I love foggy days too.
