I went to one of the largest flea markets in Arkansas and got lost.

Well…sort of. Actually it was that some of my family members that I went with, we all got lost from one another. This is when I discovered how useful cell phones are. Anyway, I thought it was kind of funny since there were other people inside that had also lost their wives or friends going from one room to another and ending up at dead ends in some places.

It was the craziest store I have ever been to. I didn’t even do the whole thing. I started feeling a little like a trapped mouse at one point, stuck in some crazy maze. That was the getting lost part.

There are numbers on all the rooms where there used to be doors into those rooms. I was lost in room number 43 and my son was lost in room number 70, my husband went back to the truck to take a breather reading a book on cattle…it was that crazy, mazes of rooms leading to dead ends.

“What was this place” I accidentally said out loud. Now that didn’t make me look crazy at all, little bit of sarcasm there.

My daughter was in some room in the 50’s looking through every record in there, hundreds of them, and I was in room 40 something looking around trying to figure out what this place used to be. Then I started to get distracted with what I would do with a space like that. I couldn’t come up with anything good, it was unsettling in there to me.

“I think it was a church, or maybe a hotel…probably a hotel” answered a woman in the corner. She had an arm full of nick knacks.

” Oh yeah…that’s what I thought when we drove up, it was a motel or something” I said back.

When I finally found my lost family members, almost bumping into a man sitting in a long hallway by himself giggling a little each time I passed him….

“Just give up trying, and stay in one spot, eventually you all will run back into each other” He said after one of his giggles.

He too had lost his group he had come with, so he took a seat in a hallway. I don’t even know where he got the chair.

When I finally found my lost family I asked if any of them knew what the place used to be. It turns out it used to be a place where future ministers went to study before becoming a pastor or minister. It did have a dorm like feel to it.

I did find a couple of items. Some 1970’s stained glass angel ornaments, and a small sewing box.

There were several rooms filled with old tools. Another room was all stickers, and another room was all kinds of carved wooden sculptures. It was a lot lets just say. Anyway, here are some photos from that experience.

I think inventory was low the day we went. We went in January so most things are sold out because of the holidays. There wasn’t a whole lot of furniture, which is what I like when second shopping. They have free doughnut days, and there are some nice handmade booths from local artists.

Things were pricey in some booths, way pricey too. Maybe to rent a space it cost a lot and that’s why. It was an okay visit but I have other places where I always find better items for a better price. Maybe it was that I went on a slow month and not a lot of merchandise around. I did find that cute little sewing box that I am now using. It’s at least worth a visit.

Going by that photo of the corridor with the rooms off it, I think I would get lost too. It does look big and I am not surprised you didn’t get to see all of it.
